a5c7b9f00b Synthetic kryptonite laced with tar splits Superman in two: good Clark Kent and bad Man of Steel.
In mortal enemies, the Man of Steel has no match. Even faced with a trio of sinister super-powered villains from his home planet, Superman saved the day. But can super-strength stand up to the diabolical circuitry of a criminally insane computer? Enter Gus Gorman (<a href=">Richard Pryor), a genial half-wit who just happens to be a natural-born genius at computer programming. In his hands, a computer keyboard turns into a deadly weapon . . . and soon, Superman faces the microelectronic menace of his career. Clark Kent meets his old flame Lana Lang (<a href=">Annette O'Toole) at a Smallville High School reunion and Superman turns into his own worst enemy after exposure to a chunk of red kryptonite.
Superman The Movie was the blockbuster of its time, an allstar cast, and a fresh new line of Special Effects, and awesome Storwriters. It is the best in the series, and has stood the test of time. Superman II was also very good, it lives up to the first one, and the new Richard Donner cut coming in November should be even better than the one we're all accustomed to! After the first seqel though, is where things began to change…

At the end of the 2nd movie, "COMING SOON SUPERMAN III!" was the first sentence in the credits. Lets get our hopes up for the next one the First two were great! Audiences soon found that was not the case for the 1983 film starring Christopher Reeve and…Richard Pryor?!

WHAT WAS WRONG?

After I, and II Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder were openly angry at the Producers Ilya and Alexander Salkind for firing Richard Donner off the 2nd movie, he had filmed the 1st film, and most of the 2nd when this happened. So Hackman refused to show up in III. And Margot talked about the Salkinds or something publicly about the Salkinds firing Donner.

So…They kept her pretty low profile in Superman III, saying she took a Vacation to Bermuda. This kinda killed off Clark Kent's original love life for the movie. The Salkinds also made some other choices that killed the movie. They decided to go with a campier movie this time. Completely diminishing the seriousness of Superman I and II. Richard Pryor wasn't too bad for the style of movie, but…he doesn't really seem like the best computer genius.

Now to the point, Superman III suffered deeply from the aspects above. Being the only movie to fail to have Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane. It was a poor sequel to the 1st two. And I rate it a 3/10. The special effectsfarSuperman flying, and using heat vision were at their best here, but still this wasn't enough to save the movie. The script was also way too Campy. Poor Job here Salkinds. So this movie failed to get good reviews, and lost popularity. The new November DVD Should be great though! The Best part of Superman III was the battle between Clark and Evil Superman. Christopher Reeve was a great actor, and showed a whole new role for himself in that small part of the movie where he is evil. But this was indeed a good performance by Reeve. (But without Lois Lane he had to start over again with the Lana in Smallvill, and Pryor also made too much of a competetor of all the attention)
"Superman III" was definitely notgoodthe first two intallments, however it did have its moments, like Superman straightening the leaning tower of Pisa when he was evil, or perhaps the Chemical Fire scene. Another good element to this film was that they got Margot Kidder out of the way for the better Annette O'TooleKent's old crush, Lana Lang. It was a big break to see less of Kidder. Superman being evil was good, how he looked like more and more of a dark wreck.

To the bad stuff. Superman isn't supposed to be a comedy, yet they snuck in a whole lot of uneeded humor, especially at the beginning with the slapstick sequence at the beginning. Wasn't very powerful like the first two. I know the network TV version has a different main title sequence. Mainly this was due to Richard Pryor, who is known for his comedic skits. I like this one sinfully though.

** out of ****
What's strange about the movie is that the best things in it aren't developed, and what Superman and the other characters do doesn't seem to have any weight. [11 July 1983, p.90]
Whether or not Clark & Jimmy's trip to Smallville would be a business expense is not explained in the film, that is, in light of the fact that Clark mentions he's doing a story on his high school reunion.

However, if they'd flown then Clark wouldn't have been on hand to stop the chemical fire they encounter. On a plane, it would've been much more difficult for Clark to suddenly leave (he'd probably detect the fire somehow, say super-smell or his super-vision) the plane w/out anyone noticing.

Then again, Jimmy & Clark might have flown to a major city near Smallville first & then boarded a bus from the airport to Smallville itself.

In Superman IV, the new owner, David Warfield asks Clark why there were no travel expenses for him and he responds that he gets airsick which I assume he has said before since you never actually see "Clark" fly. Not really. When Gus gets the composition readings from the satellite's scan of a kryptonite meteorite, there's an element that doesn't correspond to anything in Earth's periodic table of elements & therefore couldn't be reproduced in the lab. So Gus, probably thinking he'd be scolded by Webster, entered "tar"the unknown compound. When the completed compound was given to Gus after being manufactured in the lab, it turned out to be "fake" kryptonite which didn't have the total effect on Superman they'd intended. Instead of killing him it altered his personality, which did have it's benefits, allowing Webster to begin his plan to control the United States' oil supply.

As well, although this is not true Kryptonite, its effects are similar to that of Red Kryptonite. Red Kryptonite has numerous different effects on Superman. At times, in the comics and in the CW show Smallville, Red Kryptonite has altered Superman's personality in numerous ways. It is either a continuity issue, or a different power, which it could bewe never see the actual beam going from his eyes.

Also, Zod only had his powers for a brief time, he may have only had control to send concentrated beams of heat that were easily deflected. Superman had much more experience and control over his powers, at the bar he was angry and almost showing off by melting the mirror. In the bar, it looked more like big round heat waves hitting the mirror instead of the typical red laser beams.
